Barbados Youth Business Trust has embarked on a project
with one of its young entrepreneurs to promote awareness of pesticides and
other harmful chemical substances in the environment. BYBT will work with
Caribbean E-Waste Management, and IT recycling business established by BYBT
entrepreneur Nadaline Cummings.
The project is focused on
educating the public about Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) through
training sessions in schools, community centres and businesses. The education
will be focused on training on what are POPs; how to identify them, and
mitigate the harmful impact of them. As a result of the project, Caribbean
E-Waste Management, will be strengthened. The $20,000 project, funded by the
Global Environmental Facility/Small Grants Programme, a programme of the United
Nations Development Programme, is the first to be done in the Caribbean and runs from January
2010 to December 2010.
